By adopting a matrix based on the hermeneutic method, this essay constitutes a subsidy for the understanding of the relationship established historically between the school system and the youth that welcomes, educates, socializes, institutionalizes, domesticates and/or emancipates. We operate with the methodological questions: i) what analysis can we make of the systems of resignification of youth resulting from schooling? ii) what is the interpretation that stands out from the purpose of guardianship in operating with schooling processes as mechanisms for the manufacture of youths? iii) what possibilities are offered to us regarding the understanding of the officially prescribed student(s) identity(ies)? The phenomena associated with the pupilization of young people call us to a conception of school, of the educational system and of educational policies that delineate a reframing of youth as a social group of actors subordinated to certain social conditions of which they are not always co-authors. Before, however, they are a “product” of these conditions, free from any ethos of personal and social emancipation.
