Objective To investigate the treatment methods and effectiveness of upper urinary calculi after urinary reconstruction. Methods Retrospective analysis of 8 patients with different reasons for prior upper urinary calculi after urinary reconstruction (total intravesical ileum cystectomy for bladder cancer, total cystectomy in situ cystectomy for bladder cancer, ureteral reimplantation for ureteral stricture, renal transplantation for renal failure, ileum ureterostomy for ureteral stricture) was performed, including 2 cases of renal calculus, 5 cases of ureteral calculi, 1 case of renal calculi associated with ureteral calculi, who got distinctive and individual treatment: 2 cases of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), 1case of percutaneous nephrolithotomy, 1 case of bilateral percutaneous nephrostomy in phase 1 and ureteroscopy combined with cystoscope for ureteral stent in phase 2, two cases of retrograde ureteroscopic lithotripsy, 1 case of percutaneous ureteroscopic lithotripsy by percutaneous ureteral ureteroscopy. One case was under active observation and follow-up. Results All of the investigated patients (7 cases) had no significant residual calculi after operation except the one with follow-up. Two patients got postoperative pyrexia, 1 patient got systemic inflammatory reaction and improved after anti inflammatory treatment. Conclusions The individualized treatment is adopted in patients with upper urinary calculi with different characteristics after ureteral reconstruction contributed to the good clinical effects.
