Objective To compare and analyse the merits and drawbacks of embolization of prostate artery(PAE) and transurethral resection of prostate(TURP) operations, so as to provide a basis for the applying proper operation. Methods Clinical data of the 200 cases suffering from hyperplasia of prostate gland operations from January 2012 to June 2017 were reviewed and analyzed. Among them, 126 patients were treated with TURP(TURP group), 74 patients were treated with PAE(PAE group). The VAS pain scoring, time of being in hospital, complication happening rate, IPSS scoring, the volume of prostate gland, maximal urinary flow rate(MFR) and remaining urinary production were compared between the two groups. Results The VAS pain scoring of PAE group was lower with early movement out of bed, significantly shorter hospital stay, less intraoperative bleeding, low incidence of complications. One month after operation the IPSS life-quality scoring, the volume of prostate gland, maximal urinary flow rate and remaining urinary production of TURP group were better than those of PAE group. Six months after the operation there had no difference between two groups. Conclusions From the perspectives of safety and efficacy, there are no difference between two groups with respective merits and drawbacks. So the doctor should choose proper operation based on the situation and requests of patients. Key words: Prostatic Hyperplasia; Embolism, Cholesterol; Transurethral Resection of Prostate
