Antibiotics are the most commonly prescribed medications in the pediatric outpatient setting, yet 30% to 50% of these prescriptions are deemed to be unnecessary. Outpatient antimicrobial stewardship is the concerted effort to monitor and improve antibiotic use in the community setting.
