Author's summary The Korean Society of Heart Failure guidelines have been updated based on previously issued international guidelines and research data on Korean patients with heart failure (HF). Herein, Part I of this guideline has discussed the definition, epidemiology, and diagnosis of HF. In particular, the appropriate diagnosis of HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) has been emphasized given the development of newer therapeutic agents for this condition. Moreover, 2 scoring systems for the diagnosis of HFpEF have been covered in this part of the guidelines. It will provide physicians with up-to-date evidence-based recommendations for the management of patients with HF.
