Ischemic stroke is a common and often devastating disease that primarily affects the elderly. Treatment currently consists predominantly of acute thrombolysis and/ or thrombectomy to restore blood flow. This reperfusion therapy, however, is only accessible to a small fraction of stroke patients, and even among these patients, many still suffer lifelong neurologic deficits. Thus, new stroke therapeutics are urgently needed to improve the quality of life for stroke patients.
