AIM We report our experience with flow diverter devices in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms and share the efficacy and clinical results of the Derivo flow diverter device in the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular aneurysms. MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective study was carried out in the Regional Training and Research Hospital between October 2015 and March 2020, after the approval of the clinical research ethics committee numbered 2020/22-211 dated 12.07.2020 received. The radiology and file records of 21 patients with cerebrovascular aneurysm treated endovascularly using a Derivo flow diverter device were examined. RESULTS 27 aneurysms of 21 cases were treated with a flow diverters device. Of the aneurysms, 3 were in the middle cerebral artery, 2 in the anterior communicating artery, and 22 in the internal cerebral artery. Eight of the patients with a mean age of 56.9 years presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Derivo flow diverter was applied alone in 19 cases, while current diverter device and coiling were applied together in only 3 patients. Complete closure of the aneurysms was observed in 3 (14.2%) of the cases, and 50% reduction in aneurysm size was observed in 2 (9.5%) cases. Complete closure of aneurysms occurred in 20 cases (95%) at the 6th month follow-up. Mortality occurred in 1 (4.7%) of the cases, and morbidity occurred in 1 (4.7%). CONCLUSION Flow diverter devices provide an efficient and safe method of treatment, especially in fusiform, large, giant, wide necked intracranial aneurysms. Small aneurysms that are not appropriate for endovascular coil embolization treatment.
