This qualitative paper of documentary and bibliographical nature aims to situate the thought of Judith Butler about the genre, indicating peculiarities and offsets within the theoretical contributions to the study of identity and sexuality, in particular gives the Butler study the genre while category analysis and policy study of historical analyses Foucault’s sexuality undertaken and the dismantling of the repressive hypothesis. The conclusion points to the continuing need for deepening of perspectives as long as it preserved the uniqueness of each author in order to understand the complexity of gender studies and processes of subjectivation in contemporary times.
