Background/Objectives: Maximum expiratory is one of the abdominal muscles strengthening maneuver. The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of maximal expiratory resistance training on the lateral abdominal muscles of normal adults. Methods/Statistical analysis: This study included 32 normal adults, comprising 16 males and 16 females. 32 normal adults performed three tasks: resting expiration (RE), maximum expiration (ME), and maximum expiration using the expiratory resistance equipment (MER). In each task, ultrasonography was used two times to measure the thickness of the lateral abdominal muscles. Statistics were calculated using the mean of these two measurements. Findings: In each task comparison, MER showed a significant difference in lateral abdominal-muscle thickness. Present study provided maximum expiration may be an effective method for training of activation of the lateral abdominal muscles when do maximum expiration using the expiratory resistance equipment. These findings suggest that maximum expiration using the expiratory resistance equipment may be beneficial for improving the lateral abdominal muscles thickness and muscle activation of normal adults. So results of this study indicated that maximum expiration using the expiratory resistance equipment may be an effective method for training of activation of the lateral abdominal muscles. Improvements/Applications: This study showed the thickness lateral abdominal muscle in maximal expiration using expiration resistance equipment. It is considered to be a more effective method in trunk stability and prevention of muscle contraction.
