Abstract: We have synthesized and theoretically calculated 5-methylisoindolo[2,1-a]quinoline derivatives as novel near-infrared absorption dyes via a ruthenium-catalyzed one-pot metathesis/oxidation/1,3-dipolar cycloaddition protocol.
