Abstract: The sixteen-component, no-pair Dirac--Coulomb--Breit equation, derived from the Bethe--Salpeter equation, is solved in a variational procedure using Gaussian-type basis functions for the example of positronium, muonium, hydrogen atom, and muonic hydrogen.
