Abstract: Two coumarin derivatives, 7-diethylamino-3-(4-nitrophenyl)coumarin (DNC) and 7-hydroxy-3-(4-nitrophenyl)coumarin (HNC), were synthesized via Knoevenagel condensation of salicylaldehyde derivatives with 4-nitrophenylacetonitrile and then cyclization reaction.
